September Calendar Review

Every school needs active participation in order to thrive. Throughout the school year, many important opportunities exist for your support and involvement.

We understand that September can seem overwhelming with all of the back-to-school activities. Below is a guide to Walden’s autumn events.

All new students and their families attend this information afternoon. Meet the faculty and receive important information about life as a Walden student and parent. The Parent Guild Hospitality Committee hosts beverages and snacks for everyone. Do not miss this special welcome!

On the first day of school (K-6), children will line up by classroom in the South and North Yards at 8:25 a.m. Teachers will lead the children inside, so classes can begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. The Parent Guild sponsors a "Bagels & Chatter" in the South Yard, so parents can more easily separate from their children.

On the first day of Pre-Kindergarten, parents and children will arrive together to the Pre-K Yard at or after 8:00 a.m.. The Parent Guild sponsors a "Pre-K Bagels & Chatter" in the Pre-K Yard, so parents can more easily separate from their children.
Teachers will lead the children inside, so classes can begin at 8:30 a.m. If you are feeling anxious about your child's first day of school, please speak to Pre-School Director Tina Riddle for tips and advice for smoothing the transition. Tina, Kristin, and the entire Pre-K faculty will work with you and your child to make separation easy and enjoyable for your family.

At Back-to-School Nights, the Director first welcomes parents in the Toby Hayward Community Room. Specialty teachers are introduced and parents are then invited to visit their child's classroom to learn about the curriculum, field trips, birthday parties, and cultural festivities. Teachers will outline parent volunteer opportunities in the classroom and answer questions. These are adult-only events and childcare is not provided.

All Walden parents are members of Walden School Parent Guild. Meetings are usually held monthly, and everyone is welcome to attend. Find out how your talents and time might contribute to the many fantastic community events sponsored by the Parent Guild (PG). Whether you are an artist, an entrepreneur, or an organizer, the PG has a host of volunteer opportunities that welcome your time and talents. Free childcare with pizza dinner is provided at most PG meetings, with advanced registration. Email pg@waldenschool.net for more information.
