Amy Schroder Doss

Learning Specialist

My Education and Teaching/Professional Background

I have worked in the field of education for 25 years, with equal time in and out of the classroom. In addition to classroom teaching in the elementary school setting, my positions have included Reading Specialist, Instructional Coach, and Intervention Specialist. I have worked for the Oregon Health and Sciences University in the department for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs supporting students throughout the state with their learning needs. For several years I also had my own private Educational Therapy practice. I am a licensed teacher and reading specialist, and a certified educational therapist.

I Believe in Progressive Education Because ...

All individuals have the right and need to be independent and creative thinkers. In a progressive educational environment, students will gain an understanding of their own learning process, develop critical thinking skills and reflective abilities that are the foundations of a contributing and self-actualized being.

What I Love About Walden

Walden embodies Progressive Education in such a beautiful and balanced way. Structure and routine is paired with opportunities for creative, independent thought and development. It is a warm and caring place where students can feel safe, seen, and supported.

My Joy

I love kayaking on beautiful lakes, large or small, and have enjoyed many adventures, often alone with my safety gear, exploring tidal sloughs, lakes, and quiet rivers. I am a voracious reader of all topics and genres! I love knitting, hiking, museums, natural history, board games, and theater.

Fun Fact About Me

I moved to Pasadena in 2021 from Ashland, Oregon where I lived for 20 years. Ashland is home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (I am a big fan), and a lovely small town.
