Walden Weekly - June 15, 2017
Terra Toscano

Dear Walden Families,

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful school year. As we move into summer, I'd like to share a piece of the message that I shared with our Class of 2017 this morning:

"Own the natural wonder that has been nurtured since you first came to Walden and were the child who asked why? Your teachers, friends, and families have been answering that question with you for years, and it is my hope that you remain curious.

The world that you are moving onto needs your curiosity. By being curious, you will be able to see new worlds and possibilities, which are normally not visible. They are hidden behind the surface of normal life, and it takes a curious mind to look beneath the surface, ask questions, and invent new ideas.

It takes a curious mind to meet, exchange, and learn from another individual's story while suspending your judgement. This is a path to community and social change. It takes a curious mind to be present in our emotions, accept them, and wonder what their root is, instead of just reacting. Let your curiosity serve you collectively and personally.

Walden's greatest work has been to use your time here, your childhood and education, as a platform to discover your powerful voice and ideas."

Today's graduation was extraordinary. The speeches from the graduates exemplified Walden's mission in powerful and moving ways. Thank you to all of the teachers who have taught these graduates on their journey through Walden.

We're around for most of the summer, and next week is a full week of In-Service for the faculty and staff. We expect to mail out class placements in the beginning of July.

Camp Walden begins June 26.

Enjoy your weekend and thanks for all of your support throughout the year.

With care,

Terra Toscano, Head of School
